Newsletter Summer Term 2026
Our whole-school topic for the Summer Term is ‘Science in Action!’
We introduced this exciting topic with a whole-school Base Camp Day. Pupils had the opportunity to visit different classes and take part in a range of practical science investigations with their school teachers. It was a fun and engaging day, and the children left feeling inspired and enthusiastic to begin our new topic.
Basecamp Day 'Science in Action!'
From our topic launch, the children were able to decide on the following enquiry questions to focus their learning for this term.

Spring Term 2026
NEWS LETTER SPRING 2026
Our whole-school theme this term is ‘Express It!’. This theme focuses primarily on the Expressive Arts AoLE, which includes art, drama, dance, music, and film and digital media. Throughout the Spring Term, pupils will take part in a series of Base Camp days, each centred around one of these disciplines.
BASE CAMP DAY
We Started the Spring Term off with our Base Camp Day, where we designed our own graffiti Tags and decided on our first enquiry question:
- What is Graffiti, is it art or vandalism?

The Mabinogion - The Story of Branwen
For our next enquiry question, the children wanted to focus on their drama skills.
Take a look at some of our learning based around this.

Newsletter Autumn Term 2025
Our topic for this term is "Battles and Bravery", and pupils in Dosbarth Cadiar Idris will be focusing on World War 2. We will be looking at how the war affected families, children and women. Our class book will be "When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit" by Judith Kerr and we will make comparisons to the main character of the story's journey through the war with that of an Evacuee in Britain
Basecamp Day
For our Basecamp day we stepped back in time as detectives and used our skills to look at a variety of artefacts from World War 2. We used these artefacts to determine who they belonged to, what they meant to them or how they would have been used in their time during the war. We made suggestions on the role we thought each person played during World War 2.
Enquiry Questions
Following on from our Basecamp Day, the pupils came up with three enquiry questions to drive our learning this term.
A Special Visitor
This term we were lucky enough to have a visitor to our school who had unique knowledge on life during WW2. Mr Carter brought a variety of different artefacts for us to explore and talked to us about what life had been like for him as a child during WW2. We asked a lot of questions and gained brilliant insight into what life had been like and how it is different from our lives today.
