Criw Cymraeg Update

To celebrate ‘Shwmae Day’ in October, the Criw hosted a day filled with Welsh activities. Pupils from Years 1 – 6, inclusive of LRC took part in 5 activities over the course of the day; Welsh PE, crafts, singing, poster making and an online quiz. Pupils across the school dressed up, wearing traditional costumes, rugby and football kit and even the colours of the Welsh flag. Throughout the day members of the Criw worked with the Cyngor Digidol to create a ‘Shwmae Day’ reel which was shared on our Facebook page.

In January the Criw planned a fantastic ‘Caffi Cymraeg’ to celebrate Dydd Santes Dwynwen. Working with the PTA we secured donations of Welsh cakes, Bara Brith and sheep themed cupcakes, as well as daffodils and Welsh hearts to sell during the afternoon. Staff, members of the community and governors were kind enough to donate prizes, so a Santes Dwynwen raffle was also held. Members of the Criw hosted Welsh games, including bingo and an online Santes Dwynwen quiz. The Caffi was a huge success, we welcomed our doors to parents and friends of the school and Cllr Huw David even popped in to say hello and buy a raffle ticket – winning the 1st place prize! Lots of photographs of the afternoon can be found on our Facebook page and the Criw are very pleased to announce they raised an impressive amount of money from the event, that will be spent on Welsh resources to encourage the use of incidental Welsh on the playground.

The school Eisteddfod was a huge success; along with the traditional home tasks that we set including a baking competition this year, the Eisteddfod included 'Cefn's Got Talent', where pupils took part in cerddoriaeth performances where groups performed Sosban Fach, a small group of Year 5 pupils rewrote and performed a modern song about our school vision and pupils delivered a presentation on the History of Wales.
