Spring Term 2025
Dosbarth Crib Goch enjoyed taking part in Base Camp Day for the launch of the Spring Term theme ‘Time Traveller’ and after experiencing a variety of activities to launch our theme the pupils decided upon 3 enquiry questions:
- How did people survive?
- What did people eat?
- How was life different during that time?
We started our learning with a visit from a Historian and the children took part in a workshop where they learnt about different time periods from the past and had the opportunity to explore artefacts. We started our learning journey with the Stone Age followed by the Bronze Age and Iron Age, ending with the Roman Times.
Our learning in Literacy focussed on two books linked to our theme:
- The First Drawing
- Escape to Pompeii
The children wrote a diary extract, a non-chronological report, Travel Brochure about Pompeii and a Postcard.
During Summit Day Dosbarth Crib Goch shared their learning with parents and took part in activities including creating a Mosaic Tile and following a recipe to bake a Honey Cake. The children have enjoyed:
- Creating timelines
- Creating a Cave Art Drawing from the Stone Age
- Using clay to construct a Bronze Age House
- Following a recipe to make flatbread
- Writing leaflets about the Bronze Age
- Creating jewellery from the Bronze and Iron Age
- Following a recipe to make butter
- Creating beakers from the time of the Beaker People
- Write a report about the Romans
- Designing a Roman Shield
- Creating Roman Shields
- Moulding volcanoes using soil collected from the field
- Experimenting with vinegar and Bicarb to create an eruption

Dosbarth Crib Goch also enjoyed visiting The National Roman Museum and had the opportunity to learn about life during the Roman Times taking on the role of the wealthy or the role of servants during that time. The children also enjoyed trying on Roman Armour and exploring the barracks.

Autumn Term 2024- Our World, Our Planet
Dosbarth Crib Goch enjoyed taking part in Base Camp Day for the launch of the Autumn Term topic ‘Our World, Our Planet’ and after experiencing a variety of activities in each class the pupils decided upon 3 enquiry questions:
- What is Earth?
- What do animals need to survive?
- What is a predator?
We started our learning with a visit to Bryngarw Park and took part in a minibeast hunt with a focus on habitats. When we returned we enjoyed exploring our local school environment and discovered a Newt living under a log in our outdoor learning space.
Our learning in Literacy focussed on two books linked to our theme:
- Dear Earth
- The Journey Home
The children wrote letters to earth and rewrote the story The Journey Home using their own ideas.
During Summit Day Dosbarth Crib Goch shared their learning with parents and performed a class assembly to celebrate their learning for the term. The children shared their learning which included:
- We found out about food chains.
- We found out facts about predators.
- We found out about Global Warming.
- We found out that ice is melting and threatening the homes of Polar Bears.
- Plastic threatens our earth and our oceans.
- People are hunting elephants’ tusks for ivory.
- Orangutans homes are being cut down and this threatens their natural habitats.
Dosbarth Crib Goch also enjoyed a visit from the Birds of Prey and enjoyed holding Frodo the owl and finding out about each of the birds.
