Designed to Smile is a national programme that works to improve oral health of young children in Wales.

At school, our pupils in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are taking part in the Designed to Smile supervised toothbrushing programme.  We endeavour for our children to brush their teeth in school each day.  Written parental consent must be provided to us before your child can take part in the programme.

Even if your child takes part in the toothbrushing programme at school, it is still important that they also brush their teeth at home twice a day.

• The children are always supervised when brushing. 
• Each child has their own labelled toothbrush.
• Toothbrushes are replaced regularly.  
• Children have the correct amount of toothpaste put onto a dry toothbrush.
• Children then brush for about two minutes.
• Each toothbrush is rinsed thoroughly before being stored away safely for next time.
